a new book

I got 2 new books in the mail yesterday. I will tell you about the first one called Free Motion Quilting by Judy Woodworth.
 Freemotion Quilting
When I get new books, I like to try to make them last as long as possible, stretching out the enjoyment. I started reading in the afternoon and again at bedtime. I ended up finishing the whole thing! I will have to go back and re-read and of course try some things out. It is a good book for those who would like to take their free motion quilting to the next level. The author gives ideas  where she gets  her inspiration, carrying her camera and a notebook around with her. There are lots of  pictures of the quilting with diagrams. While some have directional arrows when she gives clear step by step directions, I would have liked arrows on all the examples as I really have trouble to follow line diagrams. However she does encourage you to practice on paper first and then on fabric sandwiches. The free motion quilting in the book just amazes me!
Today, I did some cleaning, got the clothes hung out and organized the recycling. After lunch I added a little more paint stick to the hummingbird and stitched in the eye. I think I will leave the final border narrow as seen below, not sure. I've added it on the 2 sides and folded it to the backside.

And for those who like to knit I'm showing my progress on the baby afghan. I only work on that between 9 and 10 at night when I watch TV and sometimes during the news at dinner time. It's almost done.
Oh, I've got to go! My husband just called; he got us a tee time. The golf course just opened yesterday and he couldn't wait. It cuts into my sewing time but some things you just  have to do for your hubby!

The humming bird looks great and I think the tighter borders fit his scale. I want to know more about this book. I'm feeling a book order coming on! lol

sew nice that it is warm enough for a tee time. I love to read and re read my quilting books and magazines. I always find something I missed the first time. Cute little Humming bird.

To read a book of that type in one day...it must have been pretty interesting! I'm sure we will see the results of what you learn from it in no time! It was a beautiful day for golf yesterday. Hope it was fun!

Lovely hummingbird quilt. But I absolutely love the baby afghan. The strip of color amongst the white is really pretty.

The hummingbird is wonderful. I like the flower details on the left...bachelor buttons?

Your lovely hummingbird reminded me that I have to get the feeders ready - usually I put them out on Mother's Day. Hopefully it will get a bit warmer until then.

I just saw that book in a magazine today and was wondering about it. Thanks for sharing what you though, Holly! Your hummingbird piece is looking wonderful. I love the whimsy of the sky FMQ.

I love to get new books! Your baby afghan looks great! Funny how I like to set aside blocks of time for specific jobs just as you do and knitting repetitive stuff gets that TV time slot, too.
