Ice shack sketches

Today, we've plunged into frigid temperatures again, -14C after lunch. It was sunny though so I went for a walk.
I've just come from my computer desk where I did a few quick sketches of the fish shacks using my photos from the other day as reference. I used pencil and colored pencils in a very quick manner. I'm just trying to get a feel for how I'd like to paint them on fabric.

The one above I like but I can already see I need to move the figures off center a bit as a focal point. I would probably cut out the fourth shack on the left.

I didn't like the perspective on the one above even though it looks like that in the photo.

The last one I kind of like but again, I'd probably take the fourth shack on the right out and add the other two men in.
This is why it's good to do lots of sketches before going to fabric. Sometimes it's good on the first try. Other times, one needs to try lots of alternatives.
I'm linking to The Needle and Thread Network.

I'm kinda wanting to do some pencil on fabric myself. I should be trying a few practice sketches first as you suggest.

So talented! We have "fish shacks" here too but I had not idea what to call them in English (from northern Quebec). Neat. I can't wait to see what you create with fabric!

I really like the last one! Just my humble opinion but I like the little shack on the right...it adds a lot of depth and dimension to the picture. Good idea to add the standing fishermen too.

all lovely sketches, but the last one is the one that appeals to me the most. I like that 4th little shack, too!

Love to see how you develop a scene that came from reality, but sometimes the real thing is not quite pleasing to the eye, your changes are very fine...

You are fantastic at sketching also! Very nice scene, too, I am looking forward to seeing how you'll interpret it in fabric.
