The zig zagging continues

By the end of this piece, I'm sure you'll have gotten tired of seeing the zig zag on birch trees!
I couldn't get out for a walk for the last couple of days due to the rain, so today I attempted to follow my Zumba DVD. I do a rather poor imitation but I worked up a sweat anyway.

Will you believe me if I tell you I spent over an hour at the machine stitching more trees? Honest, I did!

When I ran out of white bobbin thread, I decided to put in some grey thread for the shading on the right side of the tree just to see how it would look. You can see the two on the left that I started.
Once I've done all the trees, I have to add a darker grey here and there for the darker areas you see on birch trees.
Only then will I be ready for the leaves. Sigh. Maybe I should have stuck with an easier version.

I believe it took that long : )

Do you have variegated thread? I have the best luck with that for trees... though I'm no expert. Trees are new to me.

You can come in with some hand stitching now too - it would give a more uneven, random / natural look.

Sorry - were you asking advice? Probably not...

Well all in all I think it's turning out lovely. :)

The variegated may be random enough as I'd probably get too much of a regular repeat happening. This looks good though!

I really like it! Cool about your Zumba...we have to stay in shape to quilt!

I think that you will be happier with the more complex design... in the end.

I really like it! I never would have thought to make birch trees that way, but it works wonderfully.

The gray shading looks great! I'm in awe of the patience it takes to do all that thread work!

It's looking preety good I think that dark grey will just add to it as the light grey has in making the trees stand out. If they are fall trees they may not need sew many leaves ......
just a thought
