Life with a new hip

I can't believe it's been nearly a week since I had my hip replacement surgery. Things went pretty smoothly with the surgery although I had a lot of muscle pain and weakness and was unable to get out of bed or do anything without help.

I'm home now and more mobile. After two nights of having my husband help me into and out of bed at all hours things are improving. The exercises help a great deal and I discovered that my yoga belt is a great aid for moving the leg.

Without my new electric lazy boy I wouldn't have been able to move. It gets me up and down.

I'm working on a woodland animal mobile for my daughter.

I've also got a pair of socks on the needles.

At lunch and breakfast I started a sketch. Hubby brought me a seagull feather from the golf course last night--he really needs the break-- and I picked up the dried flower from near my front walk last night. I can do the distance of three houses with the walker!

I wanted to add more; however, I needed to move-- a little complication, my leg is swelling. I have to elevate it often, get it rubbed and do the exercises. Poor hubby.

I ordered a couple new books to read. This is one.

So far I've read only the first few pages. Serendipitously, the quote by George Eliot was there when I was feeling low and needed it.

I'm trying to contain myself (you know how hard that is!) and limit my list of goals.

For September, I want to finish the mobile-- all hand work, and fill out a call for entry to a SAQA show. I'm going to have to keep my patience and lay with my leg elevated above my heart several times a day. Oh boy.

I've got a card for a subscription to The Quilt Show. Which I can watch on the I Pad. Now might be a good time.

Are you doing anything creative this week?

Glad to hear your surgery went well. Now once you get the swelling under control, you'll be on the road to recovery. Good that you have some projects lined up to work on easily.

Pleased to read you're back home again and doing your exercises!!It's good that you're able to have things to work on, and books to read and definitely take up the subscription to The Quilt Show. I just renewed my membership and actually have quite a number of shows to catch up on - I'm sure you'll enjoy them. There is a recent one with Jane La Fazio which I'm sure you would enjoy. Take care of yourself, hope to hear how you're progressing.

Slow and steady wins the race, Holly. I got that book also. I'm hoping all the house projects and visitors end by Oct. 1st and creativity takes precedence! ;^) Take care!

Sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery. My mom had knee replacement surgery in May and I was her main caregiver at home, so I know all about keeping that leg elevated, interrupted sleep due to keeping those pain pills on schedule, working in the physical therapy exercises... The first couple of weeks were exhausting, but I was surprised at how quickly she improved between week 2 and 3. I hope the same is true for you!

Why am I not surprised that recovering from a hip replacement hasn't slowed down your creativity? I admire that you always find a way. I hope the next few weeks see a continued increase in your mobility.

Wow! You're doing great! I just helped my partner through a hip replacement and after a couple of days, he wasn't ready or able to do what you're doing, and I thought he did well! Here's hoping for a speedy recovery! His made all the difference in the world and I hope yours does, too!
