I’m still having serious anxiety issues. They termed it ‘hyper vigilance’ and it feels as if I’m edge all the time. The doctor doubled my dose which as yet has not helped much and has also caused me to have absolutely no motivation. Until today, I haven’t sewn in weeks, nor sketched or painted or had any desire for fiber art. It’s discouraging right now but I can’t stop the medication until there is improvement in the anxiety. <div>I was extra shaky this morning when our carpenter came to install our new countertop. He’s a friend so I managed to calm down enough to distract myself with sewing the last few blocks on the Split Charms baby quilt by Sugar Pine Quilt Design’s that’s been on the design wall for while.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_4dd2_fc7a_9eaf_247e" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/8qVgvE_Y1Y3VkC3zwXZ4lnuBvD8Ib6_l0QAdxK2i_T-kwxtPYXXqiD395hjyTbmOAQY" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 566px; height: auto;"></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">They were able to save the mosaic underneath the window that I’d done years ago.<br></span><br><img id="id_29a1_8878_8c60_3986" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/erN_c1nclntZ_mWJpaFcJgx9fs-IK3o783nY_70pbX3QyNMpwmaLvS_iOlJWfN2mk64" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 580px; height: auto;"><br><br>I was a bit limited in my blacks and whites and used what I had.</div><div><br><img id="id_29c_63cd_650e_54dd" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/lrMrxbMOfC5-x0KKaJrrAx1LAOOV5BDQDF8X2C99Z2PPkgmhNa7Ge7SRxOJrDjKHsdE" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 596px; height: auto;"><br><br><br>Meanwhile, a friend very kindly basted the 9 patch baby quilt together for me which I hand quilted using the utility stitch. I need to get out to my garden to pick beans and carrots, however; today it is too hot and muggy for me. My motivation is so low that I have to push myself to get anything done. The medication, citalopram, which is supposed to help anxiety, and hasn’t done much yet, also makes me sluggish. I’ve ignored a lot of the garden but I’m really going to try to get some yellow beans frozen as I’ve tons of them.</div><div>I’ve got rhubarb that need picking too but we’ll see.</div><div><br></div><div>I’d like to know if anyone out there is suffering from this kind of anxiety. It’s been going on for months and I’m quite discouraged. </div><div>My hip has healed well and if I could walk more it could help. I’m up to about 18 minutes. The other issue is my back which keeps me from walking too far. I’m due for another injection.<br><br></div><div>Sorry to be such a bummer but that’s my life right now and maybe it helps to write. Please tell me how you’re coping. </div><div><br></div><div>Our province has decided to go wide open despite many people’s misgivings and I’m sure that doesn’t help. It was too sudden and seemingly so unlike the procedures up to now. I was pleased to find out this morning that our local Walmart is still following the COVID protocols and that about 90% of the customers were masked. Going anywhere is a challenge for, partly out of nervousness and partly because I just don’t feel like it. I was determined to get a little more yarn so I pushed myself to go. And I drove myself for a change. </div><div><br></div><div>Take care of yourselves.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>HollyMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18161858859864895000noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1452102379660910511.post-33593264148624738732021-06-27T11:42:00.001-07:002021-06-27T11:42:44.483-07:00My first project since my hip replacement<div>I knew that I might like s fun and easy project to get back into my sewing after my hip replacement surgery. I’m only taking Tylenol twice a day. I travelled the 2 plus hours to Moncton to have this method done (anterior) as it’s less invasive and they don’t cut muscle. I also opted for an epidural so recovery time is faster. We made the trip home fine, the only hitch trying to find a decent washroom that I could get into with my husband’s help.<div>This is my current means of transportation but only for one more week and I can graduate to cane for 3 weeks.</div><div>Tomorrow, I go to have the Staples removed and we’ll see if a shower will be soon.</div><div><br><div><img id="id_8de7_4452_a505_792a" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/2ojmPnqcboPblJzW0cmuzP6QAF72d1B7RahwmmtnIpUxYfp-9MbJl6oniqhoU0_q9DM" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 513px; height: auto;"><br><br>What I have found very relaxing is utility’s stitching a baby quilt that a friend very kindly sandwiched for me.</div><div><br><img id="id_3f88_c2df_9efb_2872" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/cWE4RKzqFqgLovD4l3GnPkjp0FUOaAHydFuuX1i_ZWDrjMt9eDV88L9fKCu-l9GeqL0" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 537px; height: auto;"><br><br>I’m using masking tape as guiding lines along the diagonals using perle cottons size 5 in a variety of colors. I’m going to try to explain.<div>Several weeks ago I started having what I thought was restless legs and I found it difficult to sit still or relax. We tried treating that but things worsened. The restlessness grew. I started shaking. I had a hot ball of heat in my stomach that would radiate outward and then I’d get shivers. It was all very I comfortable and scary.</div><div>I ended up going to emergency where I was very well treated. They put me in the family room and I didn’t t wait very long to see a dr. He told me it was extreme anxiety hyper vigilance and I would need medication which was immediately prescribed. I would also hear from a mental health person in 48 hrs which I did and they’ve been in contact every couple of days. </div><div>The medication takes time to work as it gets slowly increased and I have to take something else in the meantime. </div><div>This snuck up on me as I felt I was quite content in my studio and my artwork, and I really have little control over it. </div><div><br></div><div>I’m groggy and fatigued while I get used to the meds so it’s hard to do much. I’ve been knitting a little and trying to sew the odd bit as the days can be long.</div><div><br></div><div>Some days I put on e block together.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_ae79_24c5_adca_e503" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/w_e_ZThm8Gr9e1ihdUHpeDMCbStlyYgRHBp4pBCITkkVKSVgZIMYqTdqkYBWYPrRGvo" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 492px; height: auto;"><br><br>My 1 yr old grandson Gussie, is wearing a sweater I sent over.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_ad02_f766_a7bb_f5ce" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/3b-vUmt4SQx4EWURsBE4BP-1TUucTmzaFWGq45zDFOjPiw5MAZPtOklp4BC1XjdcrpE" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 489px; height: auto;"><br> </div><div>The second sweater that I did and finished before this all started.</div><div><br><img id="id_7a0a_9b4c_7e25_b66f" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/w4c7yh8us0xNsEilIjO2YECaTseAFDHDqM8XSFqRUojLd3MUSZOCeZTTK5nexgJ_U0E" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 531px; height: auto;"><br><br>Then, I got called for my hip replacement which took only 6 months and was a complete surprise. Sometimes for a week or two I feel a slight apathy with no creative energy. I’m up and down. Do you feel it too? I suspect part of it has to do with my physical health and another part to do with the times as I do feel some stress with everything occasionally. It all just gets to you I think. When I’m having lows I do more traditional no brainer quilting like the 9 patch baby quilt that I just finished.<div><br></div><div><img id="id_5703_95ec_12eb_72b2" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/wgETn7v6Qsf6raZ0HYj1jtmLFk2Ntze5VE7uzF_rvfnygBM5FYNzlJgoK0XY1yPnh98" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 534px; height: auto;"><br><br><br>Then, I had a bag of these semi circle off cuts left over from the drunkard’s path that I made. If you’re interested in my latest YouTube video where I’m showing how I’m making sauerkraut, a stir fry with tempeh and short view of our downtown area here in Bathurst, Nb. <div><br><div>Find the video by using the YouTube link above right on my blog. Please subscribe if you’re so inclined. And do comment if you have any thoughts. Thanks!<br><div><br><div>I did a bookmark to go with a book in a birthday gift I’m giving to a friend. The air is still chilly, but the sun is shining and the snow on the roads is melting. I took my wool blanket and a chair out to the deck to do some knitting and reading. Lately, rather from COVID fatigue, or just general fatigue, I seem to waver in my creative energy. Today, was a good day.</div><div>I started laying fabrics for a winter moonlight scene in the birch forest.</div><div><br></div><div>I painted a full moon onto fusible backed tone on tone white fabric and added a little silver with a Shiva paint stick.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_f5cb_6536_5b60_cf67" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/BEwbwnRlfBPjrFy6dSYDUxNiTUMHx26aTBnam_2eeWBxztQmlS4qxWYHIi29OJDz-VA" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 574px; height: auto;"></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">Next, I thought of adding some moon-rays with some sparkly tulle. Yesterday, I was out with a friend to a fabric shop to pick up a border and backing fabric for the flying geese quilt. I’ve just now been pinning on the last row so I’ll be ready to cut borders from the fabric that I washed this morning.<div><br></div><div><img id="id_ae94_71f3_97ef_160f" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/OKwNbv8m9TyraKdSUGmc5wG2EaHoYh8ZgZSmuvormfng9e3OCduA9cisYc16oi2tU1w" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 582px; height: auto;"><br><br>Border fabric</div><div><br><img id="id_7820_eaa5_2895_2a8d" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/EM6wJEiJjM7qyH8_Jpa-DZNRn16mGQM2GxmxtkNzJcjsEPrMFUJ-dWm918k356hkrWc" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 593px; height: auto;"><br><br><img id="id_698b_f08f_2a19_8ddd" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/3HFaTj_AFaigu-PExDsPM3svMMsF129Cv66m3gYFtYYY_c7odQe1Qt3ymfJLLNDHV5Q" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 605px; height: auto;"><br><br>My plan was to finish up the details on the barn and maybe start some free motion stitching on a small winter scape with birch trees that I laid out yesterday.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_270_6514_4f75_d2f4" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/dLxU5LRrCo4ke1dD4nh_Rc0JTFWNI17KzSkzmaLz6-WhakzptjsQcIgZzpbjwYJjlUk" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 614px; height: auto;"><br><br>I want to stitch the layers on and then gradually build a birch tree grove from back to front , so lots more trees.</div><div><br><img id="id_868f_11d4_7b46_45a3" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/jW-vtdy1lhtRiplxaaZnTx-kF5BG-KAZty_9b0kFUk7jeSnTWsWt2yRjCPFOHqq6qTI" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 641px; height: auto;"><br><br><br>My sleep wasn’t the best last night so I’m a bit low energy today, meaning that I wasn’t really up to the final details on the barn. It occurred to me as I was going to get a lite snack and herbal tea, that my sewing machines are on opposite sides of my room and it’s almost like working with the right or left side of the brain. One machine for more ordered traditional quilting and the other for the freer creative side. Sometimes, when I’m feeling a little tired, I like to put on a podcast to watch and sew fabric together. No brainer stuff, often, although I can still make lots of mistakes!</div><div><br></div><div>I saw these plates with the grandchildren and now I like to use one for my snacks. I did get out for a 30 minute walk with the ‘sled walker’ on the trail right after lunch. Yesterday, I walked in the sub division and the winds made my eyes water. It’s more protected on the trail and the sun felt pretty good.<div>In case you haven’t seen it, it’s my walker adapted with skis that are made to attach to stroller wheels. The thing that takes the most work is chopping the squash up. It gets roasted at 450F along with an apple, an onion, a garlic clove and some seasoning, for 30 minutes, turning every 10 minutes. When it’s soft and cooled a bit I blend it with veggie broth and some almond milk. I had some egg salad on a Broghie with it.</div><div><br></div><div>I’m having digestive issues right now, something called gastroparesis, which I’ve had for many years but has lately worsened along with the diabetes. Contrary to what we thought, we here in northern NB did not move back a level last Friday. We stayed in orange, still with limited travel but we are now allowed to have what’s termed a ‘steady 10’. That helps a bit although we’ll still keep a lot to ourselves.<div><br></div><div>I didn’t get outside on Saturday, spending a quiet day. Would you believe that the hives that I was plagued with for 6 months last year have returned. Taking the medication which doesn’t even work, makes me quite sleepy. I try to keep busy in the studio. My husband does the vacuuming but I spritzed a floor. I also had a very short walk using only my poles rather than the walker as the roads and trail are rather messy due to the mild weather.<div><br></div><div>As a result I’m sitting with heating doing hand stitching, reading and knitting. I’ve only recently gotten back to some book reading since the start of the virus. There is even a small stack of magazines that I haven’t looked at -unusual for me.</div><div><br></div><div>Since Christmas, I’ve started reading, finishing one and almost a second one and oddly for me, I want to read an actual book as opposed to an ebook.I really enjoyed The Sea Gate. It’s a mystery and the kind I like, mysterious, rooted in the past, not much violence and a little romance.</div><div><br></div><div>The Salt Path is based on a true story of a middle aged couple who lost everything and embarked on a coastal foot path journey in England. There is love, and hope and survival in a beautiful setting. I’m probably going to finish it today. It was recommended by the podcaster of What Vivi Did Next.</div><div><br></div><div>Next up is Miss Benson’s Beetle and I found in one of those fliers that recommends atlantic books. </div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_1af3_6462_bc74_5097" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/TdQkB80YijRX9PWKh4XJHOmtqYUefrJsdaWXlv7p60npFjVxOhOX1pvkYnSNy4k" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 564px; height: auto;"><br><br>I’ve also purchased a few nooks for my Kindle App on the I Pad, but right now I’m more enjoying the feel of a real book.</div><div><br></div><div>I finally finished these mitts form the Saltwater Knits book which were quite challenging for me. I’ve made a small video of our walk posted on YouTube if you’d like to watch. You can click on the YouTube icon above left.</div> <div><br></div><div><img id="id_b07e_a7aa_706f_89ba" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/wa-pCzj6WqEu-OXuclRJ4hMJuDryUHsz4XJOOezBp49aqRIsWSXeOFjmOF_Ycbc" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 526px; height: auto;"><br> </div><div>Even though it was milder than the last few days, there was a wind that really pierced. We have a lot of that now, especially since we’re mostly retired. My husband is an introvert and I’d say o may be partly. I can sure keep myself busy though. <div>We had a chance to take the sled out on the trail yesterday before the heavy snowfall today and while the snow was still packed and fairly level. There was a nice frost on all the trees.</div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_6d9a_9d0a_2dd8_dbf1" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/Q7R23u90kh4QzBmgEVIIhunWFdVKVwzbht90jmmy2mS61-mXHDRvWfykOSRjhPI" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 561px; height: auto;"><br><br></div><div>And the light and soft colors were so pretty.<br><br><img id="id_1ae2_ff8e_b6db_548a" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/fhYLYB3enwQ4wNtx8hJ-gbEDUSRdDn6NF6OT3r22b1Oa66sD8CLAdsAfrAJIJ3g" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 533px; height: auto;"><br><br>This is a big old pine that we’ve passed by for many years that has a growing hole.
